And the eponymous 20,000-seater stadium, aptly named Audi Field and located on southwest D.C.'s newly developed waterfront, is going to be an urban, state-of-the-art facility, allowing progressive mixed-use accessibility and showcasing a commitment to environmental sustainability. But there'll be comfort, convenience and amusement amenities to boot, with the venue set to feature 31 luxury suites, a bike valet service, 500,000 square feet of retail space and the ability to host sporting, music and cultural events and more in the coming years.
That Audi Field will "help Audi connect with passionate soccer fans of all ages and the greater community" says Loren Angelo, vice president of marketing at Audi of America, is an understatement. It's going to be the kind of place where, as United Managing General Partner Jason Levien claims, "forging extraordinary memories" will be commonplace.
And it all became possible thanks to Audi's extension of its Audi of America MLS sponsorship, official since 2015, to include the D.C. United franchise, the one most decorated in U.S. soccer history and the professional team most successful in the nation’s capital, allowing the automaker to take on the role of the official naming partner.
