Why Your Car’s Oil is Important & How Often It Should Be Changed

The oil in your vehicle helps keep your engine and its parts running smoothly. But over time, the oil will thicken and, if not replaced, can cause serious damage to your engine. That’s why to ensure your car’s longevity - your oil should be replaced every 5,000 to 10,000 miles. However, if your car is older, by ten years or so, changing it every 3,000 to 5,000 miles is better.


Checking Your Oil Levels

Oil, like any fluid in your car, will be used over time. So, at some point, you’ll need to add more. To check your oil levels, wait till the engine is cool. If the car was just turned off, it’s best to wait about two hours before checking. However, if the car is warm, you will only need to wait about 15-30 minutes.
