Renowned for their performance and safety features, Audi vehicles have always been a cut above other luxury models. And they have plenty of awards to prove it. With cutting-edge driver aids, dynamic handling, and a meticulous frame and chassis design, Audi models are made with great care.

But the standards on which previous Audi models were judged have been updated. Upon testing, the Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) found seven of Audi's SUVs passed with the TOP SAFETY PICK recognition.

Requirements to Pass

The updated regulations of the IIHS mean all vehicles must pass new stricter parameters. There's a new "side crash test" and a new nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian requirement for front crash prevention systems. The new test requires vehicles to receive a "Good" rating in all previous crash evaluations. And earn an "Acceptable" or "Good" score on the updated side test.

For the daytime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluation, vehicles must achieve an "Advanced" or "Superior" rating. To achieve the TOP SAFETY PICK+ accolade, a vehicle must achieve a "Good" score in the "side test." They must also achieve an "Advanced" or "Superior" rating in both daytime and nighttime pedestrian tests.

With the new guidelines, the IIHS found that seven Audi SUVs passed muster. Five models achieved the TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) rating, with two earning the honor of the TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP). These models include:

  • 2023Audi Q4 e-tron (TSP+)
  • 2023Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron (TSP+)
  • 2024 Audi Q8 e-tron (TSP+)
  • 2024 Audi Q8 Sportback e-tron(TSP+)
  • 2023Audi Q8 (TSP+)
  • 2023Audi Q5 (TSP)
  • 2023Audi Q5 Sportback (TSP)
